Chilean Wine Tasting
Tuesday June 29th at 7pm.
Chile is one of the most perfect places in the world to grow grapes. To start, it is the only major grape growing area that is phyiloxera free. Phyiloxera is that little pest that eats vine roots so the rest of the world has to graft the vines to Native American root stock (very time consuming and expensive). Second, Chile has a dry almost desert like climate which prevents molds and mildew from being an issue and it has ample fresh, clean water from the Andres Mountains for controlled irrigation. Third, it has old established vines of Maipo and Maule, and new developing regions that are showing great promise, like Colchagua and San Antonio. There is a climate for any grape that Chile wants to grow. Therefore, it gives us a huge selection to chose from. At this tasting, we will concentrate on wine from Chile's smaller producers who produce quality and variety. The wines will be paired to a Chilean dinner.
